The series contains interiors shots of public spaces in the town of Kurkiyoki, Republic of Karelia, Russian Federation. The work takes the rather typical small town as an example in order to explore basic elements which make up the core of any Russian settlement: a hospital, police station, kindergarten, school, shop, post office, telephone station, etc. All pictures are interior shots, hence this is where the function of a building is revealed. Moreover, staying inside the building helps avoid ties to a particular geographical location.
Private interiors are intentionally left out, however there always seems to be a private touch in every public space shown.
